While not an official designation on any city map, "The Upper East Side" is the street slang for the pinnacle of wealth and power in Night City, located in the northern reaches of the Westbrook district. This is where the city's corporate elite, braindance stars, and ultra-successful edgerunners reside in opulent splendor, far removed from the grit and desperation of the streets below. It is a world of pristine chrome, exclusive high-rise apartments with breathtaking views, and luxury-brand AVs that glide silently through the sky. For the average person, it’s an unattainable fantasy, a glittering world seen only in media scrolls and braindance features. For edgerunners, it represents the ultimate contract location. Gigs in the Upper East Side are never about brute force; they are delicate operations of espionage, extraction, and social infiltration, where a misplaced word is more dangerous than a misplaced bullet. Security is invisible but absolute, and the price for failure is a silent, professional disappearance.

The area colloquially known as the "Upper East Side" is geographically situated within Westbrook, encompassing the most affluent residential sub-districts like North Oak and parts of Charter Hill. In the Time of the Red, as Night City rebuilds, Westbrook has solidified its reputation as the premier destination for those with eddies to burn, and the Upper East Side is its most exclusive enclave. North Oak is the epitome of this lifestyle, a secluded area of sprawling mansions and fortified estates protected by high walls, state-of-the-art surveillance, and private security firms that are better equipped than most national armies. This is where the true movers and shakers of the corporate world make their homes, insulated from the chaos they so often create.

Life in this gilded cage is one of detached luxury. The streets are clean, the parks are manicured, and the only gangs present are the ones on a corporation's payroll, like the formidable Tyger Claws who control much of the nearby Japantown entertainment district. Residents of the Upper East Side spend their time in exclusive clubs, high-end restaurants, and private casinos, often located in the penthouse levels of impenetrable skyscrapers. It is a world governed by status, reputation, and an intricate web of favors and blackmail. Public displays of violence are considered crude and unsophisticated; here, wars are fought in boardrooms, at cocktail parties, and through the discreet hiring of solos and netrunners to ruin a rival's career or steal their most valuable secrets.

For an edgerunner, a job in the Upper East Side is a sign that they've reached the big leagues. Fixers who operate at this level are dealing with clients who will pay anything for success and demand absolute discretion. The challenges are unique. Bypassing security often means navigating complex social situations, acquiring high-level access cards, or using social engineering to become an "invited guest." A crew might be hired to steal a prototype from a corporate exec's penthouse lab, plant incriminating evidence on a rival, or extract a high-value target during a lavish party. These missions require a specific skillset—subtlety, high fashion, and the ability to convincingly lie to some of the most powerful and paranoid people in Night City. The reward for success is a life-changing payday, but the penalty for failure is a swift, untraceable erasure from existence.

Adventure Hook

A well-known braindance director, Sevanna Vega, hires the crew for a job that is equal parts heist and performance art. Vega is in a bitter rivalry with a competitor who she claims stole the concept for her latest blockbuster BD. She wants the crew to infiltrate her rival's opulent estate in North Oak during his extravagant annual "Chrome & Gold" themed party.

The goal is not to steal data or an object, but to steal the "social spotlight." The crew must upstage the host in the most spectacular way possible, creating a moment of unforgettable social humiliation that will be the talk of the elite for months. Vega gives them a massive budget and a few ideas: orchestrate a "wardrobe malfunction" with the host's expensive new cyberware, hijack the house's integrated hologram system to play an embarrassing video, or arrange for a famously reclusive rock star (a contact of Vega's) to make a surprise appearance and publicly endorse her instead. The crew must blend in with Night City's most powerful people, execute their plan with precision and flair, and escape before the host's formidable security team realizes what's happened.
